The Reconstruction Amendments are made up of three

The Reconstruction Amendments are made up of three amendments 13th,14th,and 15th. These amendments were during the reconstruction times after the Civil War. The reasons the amendments were established were to give slave rights. The 13th amendment is talking about how slavery is abolished or service you are forced to work for the only time this is acceptable is a prisoner punished for a crime. The 14th amendment explains that anyone born in the U.S is a citizen no matter what color and that every citizen deserves their rights. The 15th amendments explains that every citizen gets to vote no matter what color or race. These amendments were important because this gave slaves their freedom and rights. The Reconstruction amendments were made because when the north won Abraham Lincoln didn’t know if people thinks the Emancipation Proclamation was just for the war so he made these amendments to make them permanent. They also made these so that slavery would be abolished and so that black people would have the freedom they deserve after working as slaves for years. The 13 amendment also unified the North and the South. This also help the legal system advance to other actions. The reason the 13th amendment was passed because the people thought that the Emancipation Proclamation was just a temporary war treaty and it was also passed by Republicans . It was passed December 6th 1865. Its states  “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”(https://www.ourdocuments.gov/doc.php?flash=false=40). Originally the senate that passed the amendment was suppose to pass it April 1864, but the House of Congress didn’t pass it until later to December 1865. The second of the Reconstruction Amendments, the Fourteenth Amendment the most important addition added to the Constitution. Republicans passed the addition particularly to secure against the danger that white southerners would make sense. The 14th amendment is also the most complicated and had unseen effects. Connecticut was the first state to ratify this amendment. When president Andrew Jackson first saw this he refused to allow it,but congress made a decision and made it into a law. The goal of this amendment was to reinforce the Civil Rights Act. One you have a citizenship in America they can’t take it back unless you lied to the government while getting it. The 15th amendment states that any African American can vote. It was adopted in March 1870. However some people found a loophole and said everyone that votes has to pass a literacy test. They would give a white person easy questions so they would pass the test and then  he can vote, but the give black people hard questions so they fail the test and then they can’t vote. Later people found out what was going on so they stopped people from doing literacy test because they were purposely making the black people fail and some people did not like that. The president Lyndon B Johnson signed the paper which banned literacy tests to vote on 1965. These amendments shaped the U.S today by giving black people freedom and they got rid of slavery which is a good thing( getting rid of slavery is the good thing). There is also one negative effect of these amendments which is still going on today. The Ku Klux Klan is a group of white supremacists that murder black people and strips their rights away. These also caused some problems with racial justice. During this time the infamous Jim Crow laws were established. Jim Crows were laws that segregated colored and whites for example they would have colors only water fountain and then they would have whites only water fountain or whites only bathrooms or colored only bathrooms. Congress passed the Ku Klux Klan Act which gave authority to people who tried to take the rights of a new freeman. In conclusion the Reconstruction Amendments were made to reconstruct the United States of America after the Civil War. This also shaped modern history in a huge way because if these weren’t made then we would still have slaves and racism and that would be super terrible. These amendments not just freed the slaves but it also gave them the rights the deserve.
